A better opening makes the loft usable
A small, stiff or badly placed hatch can make every trip into the loft harder than it needs to be. Our loft hatch installation can replace, enlarge or reposition the opening where the ceiling structure and survey allow. We consider the dimensions of the proposed ladder, the room needed beneath it and the place where you will step at the top. A well-fitting hatch or loft door should open without a wrestling match and close neatly when the loft isn't in use. We inspect the existing opening in your Cardiff home before explaining which access changes are practical.

Access planned with the storage floor
Changing the opening can unlock a better layout above the ceiling. We may be able to place the entry point closer to useful headroom or align it with a stable boarded landing area. Before fitting, we assess the surrounding structure and prepare the opening for the selected hatch and ladder. We then install, adjust and test the complete setup. If boarding is also required, we plan its starting point around the access rather than leaving an awkward gap beside the hatch. This coordinated approach gives your Cardiff loft a more natural route from the room below to the storage area.
Frequently asked questions
Can an existing loft hatch be made larger?
Often it can, but we first need to inspect the ceiling structure, surrounding services and available space. We only recommend enlargement where the opening can be prepared properly for the chosen hatch and ladder.
Can you move a loft hatch to another room?
Repositioning may be possible after a survey. We assess the ceiling structure, headroom above, deployment space below and the route onto the proposed storage floor before discussing a new location.
Should the hatch or ladder be fitted first?
We plan both together. The opening must suit the ladder dimensions and deployment angle, while the ladder must lead to a safe place at the top. Coordinating them avoids a poor fit between separate elements.
